Ada Is Co-op Territory: Why OG&E's Rebates Don't Apply Here
Pontotoc County is served by People's Electric Cooperative. That changes which HVAC incentives you can actually claim.
Ada, OK · Updated August 14, 2026
This is the single most common misunderstanding we run into on estimates in Ada. A homeowner has read about OG&E paying out substantial rebates on a high-efficiency HVAC replacement, budgets around it, and then discovers they are not an OG&E customer at all.
Pontotoc County is People's Electric Cooperative territory. PEC is a member-owned rural cooperative headquartered right here in Ada on North Country Club Road, serving roughly 16,700 members across eleven south-central Oklahoma counties — Atoka, Carter, Coal, Garvin, Hughes, Johnston, McClain, Murray, Pittsburg, Pontotoc and Seminole. If your meter is a PEC meter, OG&E's residential programs are simply not available to you, no matter how efficient the equipment is.
The good news is that PEC runs its own member rebate programs under its Energy Savings section, alongside load management and surge protection. The programs are structured differently from an investor-owned utility's, so the right move is to ring PEC directly and confirm what is current before you sign anything. Rebate programs change from year to year and we would rather you hear the terms from them than from us.
Separately from anything your utility does, the federal energy-efficiency tax credit applies regardless of who bills you for power. That is a credit against your taxes rather than a cheque from the utility, and it has its own equipment-efficiency requirements. For a lot of Ada households it ends up being the larger of the two.
Our practical advice: before you commit to a system, confirm your meter's provider, call PEC about current member rebates, and check the federal credit's requirements for the specific model. We will happily supply the AHRI certificate and model numbers you need for either.
