Shawnee is the largest city on our northern route and the Pottawatomie County seat — about 51 miles north of the Ada shop, a little under an hour up Highway 177. It is a real working city rather than a bedroom community: Oklahoma Baptist University, the Citizen Potawatomi Nation, the FireLake complex, and a manufacturing base along the I-40 corridor. The housing runs the full range. The brick and craftsman homes north of downtown and around the OBU campus are mostly on original ductwork that was cut for a much smaller load, and the returns are almost always undersized. The 1960s and 70s neighborhoods on the south and east sides are where we replace the most aging split systems. Newer construction north toward I-40 and out through Bethel Acres and Pink tends to be two-stage equipment on larger lots, which only performs if somebody commissions it properly instead of setting it and walking away.
