Tecumseh is the closest of the Pottawatomie County towns to our Ada shop — about 42 miles up Highway 177, a 43-minute run. That puts it comfortably inside same-day range, and it is a route our techs know well because it is the road we take to Shawnee anyway.

Tecumseh was the original county seat before Shawnee took it, and the older core of town still has the housing to match: solid early-century homes on generous lots, most with ductwork that has been extended a few times as rooms were added. South and west of town the lots get bigger and the addresses go rural — propane instead of natural gas on plenty of them, septic systems sharing space with the air handler, and the occasional shop or barn somebody wants heated.

The newer subdivisions off the highway run modern equipment, and the most common thing we find there is a system that was sized off a rule of thumb rather than an actual load calculation.
