Sulphur Is Co-op Territory: Getting the Rebate Question Right

Murray County is People's Electric Cooperative territory, so OG&E's programs don't apply — but PEC has its own.

Sulphur, OK · Updated August 14, 2026

Murray County is one of the eleven south-central Oklahoma counties served by People's Electric Cooperative, the member-owned co-op headquartered in Ada. If your meter is a PEC meter, the OG&E rebate programs you may have read about are not available to you regardless of what equipment you install.

That is worth establishing before you budget, because the difference is not small. We have had Sulphur homeowners plan a replacement around a rebate figure they found online, only to discover it belonged to a utility that does not serve them.

PEC does run its own member programs, listed under Energy Savings alongside load management and surge protection. They work differently from an investor-owned utility's programs, and the terms change, so call PEC directly and ask what is current for your member number rather than relying on a third-party summary.

The federal energy-efficiency tax credit is entirely separate and does not care who bills you for electricity. For many Murray County households it is the larger of the two, and it has its own equipment-efficiency requirements — which means the model you choose matters. Ask for the AHRI certificate before you commit; we supply it as standard.

One local note. A good number of addresses around Sulphur and out toward the Arbuckle foothills are on propane rather than natural gas. That changes the economics of a heat pump versus a furnace replacement considerably, and it is worth running the numbers both ways rather than defaulting to like-for-like.
